Ablation ≠ Resurfacing
CO2 laser ablation uses a focused carbon dioxide laser beam to vaporize targeted skin lesions layer by layer. Think of it as a laser scalpel — precise, controlled, and targeted at a specific growth or lesion.
This is fundamentally different from fractional CO2 resurfacing. Ablation targets and removes a specific lesion (like removing a growth with a laser scalpel). Fractional CO2 resurfaces broad areas of skin by creating thousands of microscopic columns for texture improvement and scar treatment. Same laser platform, very different applications.

Treatable Lesions
CO2 ablation is effective for a range of benign skin lesions — but only after proper dermatologist diagnosis. Not every lesion is suitable for ablation.
Seborrheic Keratoses
Common benign growths that appear as waxy, stuck-on brown or tan lesions. CO2 ablation vaporizes them precisely with excellent cosmetic results.
Syringomas
Small, firm bumps typically around the eyes caused by eccrine sweat duct overgrowth. CO2 ablation offers controlled removal with minimal scarring.
Xanthelasma
Yellowish cholesterol deposits around the eyelids. CO2 ablation can precisely remove these deposits. Recurrence is possible and lipid levels should be checked.
DPNs (Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra)
Small, dark papules common on the face in darker skin tones. CO2 ablation removes them effectively; post-inflammatory pigmentation is monitored.
Warts (Selected)
Recalcitrant or resistant warts that have not responded to other treatments. CO2 ablation destroys the wart tissue. Recurrence monitoring is important.
Skin Tags & Other Benign Lesions

The Process
Diagnosis & Evaluation
Your dermatologist examines the lesion clinically and with dermoscopy. Diagnosis is confirmed. If needed, biopsy is recommended before ablation to rule out concerning features.
Anesthesia & Preparation
Topical or injectable local anesthesia is applied depending on the lesion size and location. The area is cleaned and prepared under sterile conditions.
Laser Ablation
The CO2 laser is used to vaporize the lesion layer by layer with precision. The laser energy is absorbed by water in the tissue, allowing controlled removal with minimal damage to surrounding skin.
Wound Dressing
Appropriate wound dressing is applied. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided including wound cleaning, ointment application, and sun protection requirements.
Healing & Follow-Up
Healing takes 1-3 weeks depending on depth and area. Follow-up appointment to assess outcome, monitor healing, and address any pigmentation changes.

If biopsy is needed, surgical excision (which preserves tissue for analysis) may be recommended instead of ablation.
