Plastic Surgery

Liposuction

Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes excess fat and contours the body. Also known as lipoplasty, liposculpture suction, lipectomy, or lipo, it’s usually done to remove fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, butt, arms, neck, or ankles. A plastic or dermatological surgeon inserts a thin tube called a cannula through tiny incisions and sucks out the fat. The areas from where fat can be removed include chin, chest, back, abdomen, thighs, and calves. The safety of liposuction is enhanced by injection of wetting solution before the fat is sucked out. The procedure takes one to four hours, and most patients have dramatic results after only one session.

At the most one can expect a loss of approximately 3 kg weight loss. Even this is not manifest during the first postoperative month when the swelling gradually subside. Liposuction can not take care of cellulite. Cellulite is dimpling seen usually seen in the butt and thigh regions. Also, liposuction can not treat laxity of skin and abdominal muscles. As one grows old, there is a reduction of the ability of skin to snap back to the new volume changes. If there is a significant reduction in the skin tone, an excisional procedure (like abdominoplasty) may be more appropriate.

Male breast reduction (Gynecomastia)

Gynecomastia can result in embarrassment and social inhibitions. It can prevent affected individuals to refrain from participating in sports and other situations where the altered appearance is easily made out.

Male breast reduction, also called gynecomastia surgery, is an outpatient plastic surgery procedure that corrects the enlargement of benign male breast tissue that’s caused by a hormonal imbalance (gynecomastia). During the procedure, your doctor removes unwanted glandular breast tissue and excess fat using a combination of surgical techniques and liposuction. The procedure usually lasts between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the amount of tissue and fat that’s removed. Once it’s removed, your pecs are sculpted into a new shape that’s in proportion with the rest of your physique.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, commonly called a “boob job,” is a plastic surgery procedure that can enhance your breast size and shape.Small breasts can result in low self-esteem and impaired self-confidence. This can affect the quality of life of the affected individual. Cosmetic surgery for enhancement of the appearance of breasts is one of the most commonly performed procedures. Millions of women have undergone breast augmentation resulting in a positive body image and improved self-confidence.

The benefits of breast augmentation include improvement of volume (size) and projection of breasts, improved aesthetics and improved self-confidence

Jaw Surgery Augmentation

Corrective Jaw Surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery, is performed by surgeons to correct different types of minor and major dental and skeletal irregularities. This also includes misalignment of teeth and jaw. This surgical procedure is aimed at improving a person’s ability to speak, chew, and breathe. Most of these procedures can bring a dramatic improvement in the patient’s appearance; however corrective surgeries for jaw are performed for overall functional advantages as well.

WHO REQUIRES A JAW SURGERY?

People who benefit from undergoing jaw surgery are mostly those with improper bite due to maligned jaw or teeth. At times, the rate of growth of upper and lower jaw is different resulting in imbalance which often necessitates surgery. People with injury to the jaw area or birth defects may also have maligned jaw. Orthodontic methods can provide a temporary relief but in order to seek a long term solution, corrective surgery is required.

Gender Transformation surgery

For transgender and nonbinary people, a male-to-female (MTF) vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that converts existing penile and scrotal tissue into a vagina, labia, and clitoris, for fully functioning female external genitalia.

It’s often performed simultaneously with an orchiectomy,  or testical removal, as gender confirmation surgery (also known as bottom surgery).

The procedure can help align your body with your gender identity and alleviate feelings of dysphoria—the distress, anxiety, and depression felt when your body doesn’t match your true gender identity.

Eye bag reduction

Eyelid surgery (also called an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty) tightens and lifts sagging eyelid skin. It can be done on upper lids, to raise hooded or droopy eyelids, and on the lower lids, to remove eye bags and tighten loose skin. These procedures can be performed separately or at the same time.
Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty?
You are a good candidate if you are bothered about the aged appearance of your eyelids,You do not have any serious condition affecting the eyes, those who are in good health and do not have any serious coexisting illness, those who have reasonable expectations about the procedure and you do not smoke.

Reshaping of Nose

A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the size and shape of your nose. Commonly called a nose job, it can reduce a prominent bump, narrow a wide tip, straighten a crooked bridge, or make your nose more proportional to the rest of your facial features. It can balance your facial features by making your nose more proportionate.Rhinoplasty is an outpatient plastic surgery, so you’ll go home the same day. Facial features need to reach maturity before you can have a nose job, so teens should wait until they’re at least 17 years old. Airway issues due to the septal abnormality can usually be treated at the same time as rhinoplasty. In some cases, surgery may be declined if the doctor feels that there may not be any significant improvement in the appearance of the patient.

Like other major cosmetic surgery procedures, a second appointment may be scheduled along with the spouse or immediate caregiver. Preoperative pictures are obtained. The outcomes and possible complications are also reviewed.

Surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. Longer procedures are done under general anesthesia. The incision is placed on the inside of the nose and a small part of it is visible on the under-surface of the nose. The scars usually settle well. The procedure depends on the abnormality and the steps tailored to correct these.

This may include

  •  alteration of the tip with removal, addition or alteration of the shape of the cartilages which form the nasal tip.
  • increase or reduction of the dorsum of the nose. Additional cartilage may be harvested from within the nose, ear or near the ribs.
  • reconstruction of internal and external valves of the nose.
  •  alteration of the septum of the nose.
  • narrowing of a wide base of the nose with the removal of a small disc of tissue.
  • correction of asymmetry of the nose by manipulation of bones and cartilages.
  • alteration of certain lip muscles to better improve the relation of nose and upper lip.

The exact steps taken depend on the preoperative diagnosis of the deformity. Sometimes a small pack may be placed inside the nose which is removed painlessly by the next day. The patient may be asked to wear a splint for a week in the case of a bone alteration. The patient is encouraged the use of cold compresses and additional pillows during the initial days.

The patient can usually return to work in 5 days. The splint is removed in a week. Improvement in the appearance is visible in spite of the swelling by the end of 2 weeks. Most of the swelling usually goes by the end of the first month. The nose settles into the final appearance by the end of the first year.

Ear Reshaping surgery

Ears can get affected due to changes as a result of abnormal development or due to injury. Abnormality in the shape of ears can result in feelings of embarrassment and low self-esteem. Ear reshaping surgery offers a perfect solution for this problem. This type of surgery is used to correct different types of ear deformities including protruding ears and birth defects. The surgery requires a careful analysis of individual ears and the goal is always to introduce the changes by maintaining natural looking ears.

WHO REQUIRES EAR RESHAPING?

Any child or adult with deformed ears is a good candidate for ear correction or reshaping surgery. In case of children, it is advisable for the child to have reached 6 years of age before the surgery, as by that age ears achieve almost 90 per cent of the adults’ size. An adult of any age group who enjoys good health and wishes to seek corrective remedy for protruding ears can be a candidate for this surgery.

Facelift surgery

Technically known as rhytidectomy, a facelift is a surgical procedure to rejuvenate the middle and lower thirds of the face. It can be combined with a neck lift. A facelift addresses many of the changes seen in an aging face.  As one ages, there are visible signs of aging such as sagging of the midface, wrinkles and creases which start appearing below the lower eyelid. Hollowing or grooving of the cheek, decrease in muscle toning leading to jowls etc also become prominent. Certain deep creases too appear along the nose, corner of the mouth and multiple folds & wrinkles develop across the neck as such giving an overall tired and crumpled look to the person. All these effects of aging can be effectively addressed through face lift surgery.

Who is a good candidate for a facelift?

These include individuals who are nonsmokers, who are in good health without any significant co-morbid illness and have reasonable expectations about the procedure.

Arm Fat correction before_after (1)

Arm fat correction

Brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess fat and loose skin on your underarms, eliminating the appearance of “bat wings.” Aging, genetics, and significant weight loss or gain can all contribute to sagging arm skin, which can’t be tightened by exercise and diet alone. Large arms with loose folds of skin can be secondary to massive weight loss following a diet, exercise or weight loss surgery. The stretched out skin may fail to recoil following weight loss. The resulting deformity with large loose folds of skin may prevent an individual from wearing tight fitting clothes. Brachioplasty helps modify the appearance of the arms such that it is more proportionate to the torso.

Usually performed as an outpatient surgery, an arm lift procedure is the most effective and permanent way to recontour arms.

The surgery can be combined with other body lift or body contouring procedures, or with liposuction, to remove excess fat and give arms or other areas a more toned, sculpted look.

Who is a good candidate for brachioplasty?

This includes those who are bothered about the size of their arms and desire an improvement, those who have realistic expectations about the procedure, those who are non-smokers and those who do not have any significant co-morbid illness.

Excisions of various cysts

Cysts (sebaceous cyst, epidermal inclusion cyst, dermoid cyst, pilar cyst, infundibular cyst, pilomatrixoma) are usually benign (not cancer) slow growing “sacks” of tissue that can occur anywhere on the body, though often found on the face and scalp. Cysts can drain, rupture, grow larger, become infected, and deform surrounding tissue.

The plastic surgeon may safely and gently remove various cysts under local anesthesia to improve the appearance or symptoms. Surgical excision is recommended because of the risk of growth, infection, and rupture.

The scar that results from excision is usually only a thin line, though it can sometimes be more noticeable if the lesion was large or if the healing is abnormal.

Double chin reduction

In chin liposuction, also called submental liposuction or “chin lipo,” a plastic surgeon uses a thin tube (known as a cannula) to suction excess fat from the chin (“double chin”), neck, and jowls. The procedure may be combined with a chin implant, and create a more defined neck contour. If you have concerns about your neck contour due to skin sagging, you can also combine it with skin  tightening procedures like a neck lift.

Fat grafting

Fat grafting, also referred to as fat transfer or fat injections, is the surgical process by which fat is transferred from one area of the body to another area. Fat cells are usually harvested from the abdomen, flanks, hips, and thighs. These are obtained using a small cannula. A cannula is a small tube that is inserted into the body using small incisions. The technique of harvesting fat is similar to liposuction. Depending on the amount of fat to be transferred the procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia.

Once the fat is harvested, it is processed to remove the fractions that are not useful. Useful fraction would include the viable fat cells with its supporting framework of connective tissue cells. This useful fraction is then injected into recipient areas. The recipient areas can be face, hands, breasts or back.  Fat grafting is done either as an outpatient or short stay procedure. It does not need a prolonged stay inside the hospital.

Once the fat cells are deposited within the tissues, it derives its nutrition from the surrounding areas. This is similar to grafting performed with other tissues like skin, bone or cartilage. Once the graft obtains its blood supply from the new areas, it survives for a long time. Smaller parcels of tissues have a better chance of survival and take when compared to larger bits of tissue. With refinements in the technique, there is an improvement in the percentage of the fat cells that are taken up after one session of fat grafting.

Who is a good candidate for fat grafting?

A good candidate would be,

  1. A non-smoker.
  2. Has adequate fat deposits.
  3. Has realistic expectations about the procedure.
