PRP & GFC Hair Treatment in Thrissur, Reactivate Dormant Follicles
PRP and GFC use the growth factors in your own blood, PDGF, VEGF and IGF-1, to wake dormant follicles, shorten the resting phase and slow shedding. It works at the follicle. Most patients in coastal Thrissur also fight the hair shaft: the brackish, salt-laden well water along the Chavakkad and Kodungallur belt strips the protective oils and leaves shafts dry and brittle. At DermaVue Punkunnam, a board-certified dermatologist treats the follicle in the clinic and gives you a barrier-care plan for the water at home.
PRP and GFC: How Growth Factors Restart a Dormant Follicle
PRP, platelet-rich plasma, concentrates the platelets in a sample of your own blood. Platelets are reservoirs of growth factors, chiefly PDGF, VEGF, IGF-1, EGF and TGF-beta. Injected into the thinning scalp, these signals improve the blood supply around the follicle, push resting (telogen) follicles back into the growth (anagen) phase, and lengthen that growth phase so hairs grow longer and thicker before they shed. Because the material is autologous, there is no allergy or rejection risk. We start by confirming the type and cause of your hair loss on trichoscopy.
GFC, growth factor concentrate, is a newer preparation that isolates the growth factors while leaving out most of the red and white cells. With fewer inflammatory cells it tends to cause less injection-site discomfort, and small comparative studies report hair-count and patient-satisfaction results that are at least as good as standard PRP. The evidence base for GFC is smaller and more recent than for PRP, so we choose between them case by case rather than treating GFC as automatically superior. Both are offered at DermaVue Thrissur, and both pair well with medical therapy or with a hair transplant as graft support before and after surgery.
There is a second, local reason hair underperforms here, and it sits on the shaft, not the follicle. Along the Chavakkad and Kodungallur coastal strip, seawater has pushed into the shallow aquifer, and chloride in well water across this belt has been measured from 1 up to 2,304 mg per litre, averaging around 658, well past the 250 mg per litre most people can even taste. Salt-laden water strips the hair's protective sebum film and leaves mineral deposits on the cuticle, so shafts wash out dry, rough and brittle and the scalp turns itchy. PRP and GFC cannot fix that, because the damage is to the shaft. This is why our coastal patients get follicular regeneration in the clinic plus a barrier-care plan, a chelating or clarifying wash and a softened or filtered final rinse, for the water at home, and why we settle an itchy, flaking scalp before any regeneration course.

How Growth Factor Concentrate and PRP Work
GFC and PRP Growth Factor Concentrate Hair Therapy
Your PRP or GFC Session in 4 Steps
Blood Draw
10 to 20 ml of blood drawn from your arm, same as a routine blood test. Topical anaesthetic is applied to the scalp about 45 minutes before.
Processing
Blood is processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors. The GFC preparation isolates the growth factors and removes most red and white cells.
Scalp Injection
The concentrate is injected into the scalp at roughly 1 cm intervals across the thinning zones with fine needles, over a 20 to 30 minute injection session.
Aftercare and Follow-Up
Resume normal activities the same day. Skip shampoo for 24 hours. The usual plan is an initial course of 4 to 6 sessions about 4 weeks apart, with progress checked on trichoscopy, then maintenance every 4 to 6 months.
Plan Your PRP or GFC Course With a Dermatologist
Trichoscopy assessment first, then a clear 4 to 6 session plan matched to your type of hair loss. Same-week appointments, open Sunday.
