Hair Transplant in Kottayam — SMART FUE with Korean Choi Implanters

Hair transplant in Kottayam at DermaVue is performed by dermatologist-surgeons who first diagnose the underlying cause of hair loss, design an age-appropriate hairline, and manage the patient medically after surgery. A 2024 clinical study of 158 patients showed over 90% graft survival, with 85% of patients exceeding 95% survival at 12 months. DermaVue combines FUE with PRP therapy for enhanced graft survival. EMI payment options available.

Why SMART FUE at DermaVue

What Makes DermaVue Kottayam's Hair Transplant Different

🎨

Artistic Hairline Design

Age-appropriate, gender-specific hairline design that looks natural both now and in 20 years. Single-hair grafts placed at precise angles along the frontal border — undetectable even under close inspection.

🇰🇷

Genuine Korean Choi Implanters

Hollow-tip Choi pens enable single-step simultaneous channel creation and graft implantation — reducing graft time out of body, improving survival rates, enabling denser packing than standard needle-forceps implantation.

🏥

Hospital-Standard OT

SMART FUE surgery performed in a fully equipped Operating Theatre with sterile protocols, surgical team, cardiac monitoring, and backup. Not a clinic procedure room.

📊

La Densitae Protocol

Maximum density technique using multi-graft combinations (1, 2, 3-hair grafts) placed in strategic zones to recreate natural hair density gradients — denser at hairline, building through mid-scalp.

⚗️

PRP Integration

Intraoperative PRP injection into donor and recipient areas at DermaVue Kottayam — proven to reduce shock loss and improve graft survival rates by 15–20%.

Assessment Before Surgery: Norwood Stage, Donor Density, Graft Count

A transplant result is planned before it is performed. At DermaVue Kottayam the surgeon grades the pattern, measures the donor supply under magnification, and calculates grafts from area and target density. No graft number is quoted before this assessment.

📉

Hamilton-Norwood grading

Male pattern loss is staged I to VII. As a planning rule: Norwood III needs roughly 1,500 to 2,200 grafts, Stage IV 2,200 to 3,000, Stage V 3,000 to 3,800, and Stage VI upward of 3,800. Women are graded on the Ludwig scale, where a preserved frontal hairline with central thinning guides a different design.

🔬

Donor density on trichoscopy

The safe donor zone at the occipital scalp usually carries 65 to 85 follicular units per cm². Extraction is planned to leave that zone above roughly 40 units per cm² so the back of the head shows no visible thinning after healing. A thin donor caps how many grafts can be moved, whatever the recipient demand.

📐

Graft count from area and target

Grafts are calculated as recipient area in cm² multiplied by a target density, typically 35 to 45 units per cm² at the hairline, tapering through the mid-scalp. This is why two men at the same Norwood stage can need different numbers.

🚫

When surgery is deferred

An unstable pattern under age 25, active alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, uncontrolled diabetes, or unaddressed iron and thyroid deficiency are reasons to treat medically first and re-assess. Operating on active shedding risks an unnatural result as native hair keeps miniaturising around the grafts.

What the consultation measures

  • Digital trichoscopy of donor and recipient zones
  • Follicular unit density and single vs multi-hair mix
  • Hairline design marked against your facial proportions
  • Ferritin, thyroid and blood profile to exclude reversible loss
  • A written graft estimate and single vs two-session plan

Recovery, Day by Day

What Healing Looks Like After SMART FUE

Follicular unit extraction leaves no linear scar and most desk-based patients are presentable within a week. Growth, however, follows the hair cycle and is measured in months, not days. Here is the honest sequence.

1

Days 1-3

Mild forehead swelling, pinpoint crusting at each graft, and a snug donor dressing. Sleep with the head raised 30 to 45 degrees to limit oedema. Prescribed analgesia and a short antibiotic cover manage the first days comfortably.

2

Days 3-5

Most patients on desk or clinic work return now. Swelling settles. The recipient area is still dotted with tiny scabs that must not be picked.

3

Days 7-10

The first gentle wash is taught in clinic. Scabs shed on their own by day 10 and the grafts are secure in their channels beyond this point.

4

Weeks 2-6

Transplanted shafts shed. This shock loss is expected physiology, not failure. The follicle root stays in place and re-enters growth. Native hair around the grafts can shed briefly too, which is why medical support continues.

5

Months 3-4

Early regrowth begins as fine hair. Density is not yet the final picture.

6

Months 6-12

Visible thickening through month 6; final density, calibre and hairline are assessed on trichoscopy at 10 to 12 months. Published high-quality FUE series report graft survival around 90 percent and above at one year.

Pre-op and post-op care for Kottayam's climate

Before surgery: stop smoking and alcohol for a week, pause aspirin, NSAIDs and non-essential blood thinners as advised, and complete the pre-operative blood profile. Come with clean, oil-free hair.

After surgery, tuned to local conditions: Kottayam's mean humidity near 77 percent, rising above 87 percent through the June to August monsoon, means sweat and rain need managing. Keep grafts dry from rain for the first 10 days, avoid gym, steam and heavy sweating for 2 to 3 weeks to lower the risk of folliculitis, and shield the healing recipient area from the intense summer sun, where the clear-sky UV Index reaches 11 to 12. No helmet pressure and no scalp oil until the surgeon clears it. Scheduling the procedure at the start of the monsoon suits patients who want cloud cover for the sun-avoidance weeks.

About Hair Transplant at DermaVue Kottayam

DermaVue Kottayam is a physician-owned dermatology clinic in Kerala performing FUE hair transplant surgery under board-certified dermatologist-surgeons in a hospital-grade operation theater. A 2024 study of 158 patients demonstrated over 90% graft survival, with PRP-enhanced protocols showing superior outcomes. The clinic provides comprehensive pre-surgical diagnosis, FUE surgery, PRP combination therapy, and 12-month post-operative follow-up. Rated 4.8 stars across 558+ reviews, DermaVue serves patients from Kottayam, Changanacherry, Pala, Ettumanoor, and surrounding areas.

As the only DermaVue in Kottayam district, the clinic draws hair transplant patients from across the catchment. It sits on MC Road (SH1) in Thellakom, beside Caritas Hospital and about 3.3 km from Mahatma Gandhi University, roughly 7 km north of Kottayam town. Patients drive in from Pala, Changanassery, Ettumanoor, Kanjirappally and Kumarakom, with on-site parking at Zion Tower, and out-of-district and returning-diaspora patients arrive via Kottayam railway station about 8 to 9 km south. A single physician-performed model, rather than technician-led extraction, is the reason many travel past nearer chain clinics.

FAQ

Frequently Asked — Hair Transplant Kottayam

Cost depends on the number of grafts required, determined during consultation. Hairline-only restoration (1,500–2,500 grafts) costs less than full coverage (3,000–5,000 grafts). DermaVue offers all-inclusive packages with PRP, post-op kit, and 12-month follow-up. 0% EMI is available. Contact +91 8129883331 for a personalized estimate.

Yes. Transplanted follicles are harvested from the DHT-resistant donor area at the back of the scalp. These follicles retain their genetic resistance when moved to balding areas, continuing to grow permanently. A 2024 study confirmed over 90% graft survival at 12 months.

In published clinical data, over 90% of FUE grafts survive transplantation, with 85% of patients achieving survival rates above 95% at 12 months. Adding PRP therapy further improves outcomes — 90% of PRP+FUE patients achieved moderate-to-high density compared with 60% with FUE alone.

Local anesthesia eliminates pain during the procedure. Most patients watch content on their phone or nap during surgery. Post-operative discomfort is mild and manageable with prescribed pain medication for 2–3 days. The procedure is well-tolerated by the vast majority of patients.

Graft count depends on the area of baldness, desired density, and available donor supply. A receding hairline typically needs 1,500–2,500 grafts. Crown coverage requires 2,000–3,500 grafts. Extensive baldness (Norwood 5–7) may need 4,000–5,000 grafts across one or two sessions.

FUE extracts individual follicular units through tiny circular incisions, leaving no linear scar. FUT removes a strip of scalp from the donor area, leaving a linear scar hidden under hair. FUE has faster healing, less discomfort, and allows shorter hairstyles. DermaVue exclusively performs FUE.

Yes. Female hair transplant is successful for women with stable donor areas and localized thinning, particularly along the hairline or part line. Women with diffuse thinning throughout the scalp may not be ideal candidates. A dermatologist evaluation determines candidacy.

New growth begins at 3–4 months. Visible improvement is apparent by 6 months. Final density and quality are reached at 10–12 months. The 3–4 week post-surgery "shock loss" phase — where transplanted hairs temporarily shed — is normal and expected. Patience is essential.

A dermatologist diagnoses the cause of hair loss, not just the pattern. They can identify hormonal, nutritional, or autoimmune factors that a dedicated transplant clinic might miss. Post-surgical medical management (finasteride, minoxidil, PRP) prevents continued loss of native hair around the transplanted zone.

Published evidence shows that PRP combined with FUE significantly improves graft survival. In a comparative study, 90% of the PRP+FUE group achieved moderate-to-high density, versus 60% with FUE alone. DermaVue includes PRP as part of its hair transplant protocol at no additional charge in package pricing.
